Therapy begins with an initial consultation in my office where I can provide a safe space for you to share your thoughts, concerns, and questions.
During this meeting, we’ll start to get to know each other. I will want to hear your story and what you hope to achieve in therapy. I will also explain my therapeutic method and treatment style more thoroughly and answer any questions you have so that you can feel fully informed before moving forward.
My approach, and the cornerstone of our work together, is to begin a therapeutic alliance based on the qualities of respect, genuine interest, empathy. We will work together to recognize how your current life situation is being directly affected by past events and relationships. Step by step, we will take that knowledge, and turn those negative influences into small positive actions that will help you to take control of your life, thoughts and relationships.
Overall, my hope is that while engaged in treatment you will become increasingly motivated and curious about how your mind, emotions, private thoughts or fantasies function in your daily life, decision making processes, and relationships. Since, with understanding comes a new perspective and new perspectives can lead to the healing that will allow you to move forward in your life!
